3. AI Features
MarkdownBrain offers AI-assisted features alongside direct editing, graph navigation, import, and export.
When you request an AI-assisted feature, we may process the text and limited related note information needed to provide that feature.
AI-assisted features may process content to:
- Create embeddings used to find related notes
- Classify note content
- Suggest structure or links
- Generate note drafts
- Support other user-requested editing workflows
4. AI Service Provider
MarkdownBrain uses the OpenAI API as its LLM service provider.
MarkdownBrain uses OpenAI for AI features without using your content to train AI models.
We send only the content needed to provide the AI feature you request.
Do not submit highly sensitive personal, financial, medical, legal, or confidential business information unless you are comfortable with it being processed through MarkdownBrain and OpenAI.
You can create and edit Markdown notes manually without using AI features.
Relevant note content may be sent to OpenAI to help:
- Classify and structure note content
- Suggest note drafts
- Suggest updates to related notes
- Suggest links between notes
5. Payments
Paid subscriptions for MarkdownBrain are processed by Lemon Squeezy.
Lemon Squeezy acts as the merchant of record for purchases made through its checkout. This means Lemon Squeezy handles payment processing, billing, applicable sales taxes or VAT, fraud-related payment checks, and transaction records.
MarkdownBrain does not directly store your full payment-card details.
Your payment information is processed according to Lemon Squeezy's privacy policy and buyer terms.
You can manage, update, or cancel your subscription through the billing portal provided by Lemon Squeezy.

When you purchase a paid plan, Lemon Squeezy may collect information such as:
- Name
- Email address
- Billing country or address
- Payment method details
- Transaction and subscription information

6. How We Share Information
We do not sell your personal data.
We share personal data with external service providers only when needed to provide the Service.
These providers may only process data as necessary to provide their services to us, subject to applicable agreements and legal requirements.

We may share information with the following external service providers:
- OpenAI, to provide the AI-assisted features you request
- Lemon Squeezy, to process subscriptions and payments
- Google, to provide Google OAuth sign-in
- Cloudflare, to provide bot protection for the contact form
7. Data Retention
We keep personal data only as long as needed for the purposes described in this Privacy Policy.
In general:
- Account information is kept while your account remains active.
- Markdown content is kept until you delete it.
- Billing records may be retained where required for tax, accounting, fraud prevention, or legal obligations.
- Technical logs are retained for a limited period needed for security, troubleshooting, and service operations.

Our Umami setup is intended to work without analytics cookies and without sending note content, prompt text, vault names, email addresses, or other user-generated content as analytics event data.
If we later use non-essential analytics or marketing cookies beyond this setup, we will provide any notices or consent options required by applicable law.
